Ecommerce Experience VI

COVID vs. Shipping

With Cos Breglia Managing Director at Keys Freight & Logistics

Text Version:

Cos started with importing basics. Importing for the first time can be difficult for small businesses. Documentations and permits are required. Tariffs and taxes become complicated.

Cos advised the audience to speak to a freight forwarder/customer broker before purchasing products from overseas. Investigate the product for any special requirements that may prohibit it from being imported. Make sure there are no hidden taxes.

The next topic was about negotiating with an overseas supplier. Cos said to discuss the incoterms when you talk with the supplier. Incoterms is a contract that includes the obligation of the supplier and the buyer (yourself). It stipulates where your obligation starts and where the supplier’s obligation ends.

If the supplier is a Chinese supplier, they will likely work on a term called Free on Board (FOB).
