Summary

Gareth and Richard come from IQ Seven. They provide a website improvement system for website owners. The AI checks websites for businesses and identifies any problems that need to be fixed or improved.

Simon asked Richard and Gareth about the common mistakes in website development. Gareth first answered. He said that many people forget to focus on the user. Make sure to look at your website through the eyes of a customer. He stressed that the audience should always test their website.

Richard’s answer involved the process itself. He found many people think it is the end when they launch the website. In reality, website development is an ongoing process. You will always have to refer to the statistics. Tweak and improve bit by bit. Both Gareth and Richard agreed that there are no perfect, complete websites.

Both guests have been in this industry for a long time. Simon asked if there were any changes. Richard answered that technology is more accessible now. Almost anybody can start an online business for better or worse. Mobile usage is also a significant factor.

On the other hand, the focus on customers had not changed. You have to know what your customers value. Then, you have to deliver that value. It could be through your products, blogs, social media posts, and more.

Simon then asked about negative trends and positive trends. Gareth raised that an ecommerce website is easy to start. People will put on some blog posts and can be completely wrong with their information. What is even worse? Larger companies can take advantage of such small businesses.

Gareth raised a key positive trend too. Stores are providing consumers with the ability to choose their payment methods. It had become a massive trend. It is to the point where people will decide on a store depending on the payment options.

The next question was regarding mortar-and-brick stores. Both Richard and Gareth agreed that retail stores are to stay. During that time, online stores will grow as well. They also added that stores should embrace both sides of the models. The buying process is changing. Stores should treat their online store as a component of their retail store.

Simon asked for some marketing tips. Gareth answered to show authenticity. One rule in marketing is that people buy people before the product. Don’t be afraid to show your people and your behind-the-scenes. Social media is an excellent method to do so.

Lastly, Richard reminded the audience that there is no “magic wand”. You need to experiment and improve constantly. It always comes back to knowing your customers. Take their feedback and testimonials as a part of your improvement.
