Summary
Bryce started his ecommerce journey with dropshipping t-shirts. His marketing strategy using social media didn’t get the results he expected. He realised it was because people couldn’t check the quality of his products online. So, Bryce decided to wear his products for people to see. And it worked. After that, he took it up to the next level. He got his fashion brand, a physical asset for his business.
Simon brought up the topic of Shopify vs. WooCommerce. He asked Bryce which would be better for startups, and Bryce answered Shopify. Shopify doesn’t require any coding knowledge, and the plans are also a bit cheaper. WooCommerce, on the other hand, does require a bit of coding knowledge.
The topic then moved on to the inspiration behind Bryce’s brand. His friend had a clothing business, and Bryce asked for advice on suppliers, materials and so on. As for the design, he had little experience in graphical design. So, he went for the minimalistic approach. With the help of Canva, he found his style for his clothing brand. It turned out to work as his brand’s unique sales point.
Bryce hopes that Escape Apparel could grow into an established worldwide brand someday. He shared his opinion that the internet can help brands grow faster. You can quickly communicate, connect or send a pitch through social media. Simon agreed, remembering how magazines or billboards were used before this powerful tool was born.
Simon then asked Bryce his experience of getting his products in retail stores. Bryce answered that persistence is key. He had to interact with other accounts through likes and comments on Instagram and started sending DMs. The initial week was silent without any replies. One day, Bryce decided to send his message with more authority. He said he would directly visit the retail store with his products. He got his first reply, and his products made a retail debut.
The last main topic the two touched on was content. Simon asked Bryce his preferences, and he answered with blogs and Snapchat. He also touched on the topic of social media algorithms and content distribution. According to him, use the word ‘sexy’ on Snapchat and provide snippets of larger content pieces.
